Nikolay Ginov is a baroque, classical and modern cello; bass violin and viola da gamba player, performing as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player with renowned ensembles and orchestras, such as the London Schubert Players, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Baroque Ensemble LUX. With OAE, Nikolay has toured Europe and performed at the BBC Proms under the batons of Sir Roger Norrington and Sir Simon Rattle. His wide-ranging repertoire includes masterpieces from the 17th to the 21st centuries.
He studied with Stefan Popov at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he completed MMus and was awarded a Fellowship. Nikolay formed Freude Piano Trio and Sonore String Quartet. He was invited to perform in several international festivals, including the Oberstdorf Music Summer in Germany, Florestan Festival in Peasmarsh, Banff International Summer Festival in Canada, and IMS Prussia Cove.
Nikolay received the Peter le Huray Award and studied baroque and classical cello with Jennifer Ward Clarke and viola da gamba with Jonathan Manson at the Historical Performance Department of the Royal Academy of Music in London. He graduated with Distinction, the John McAslan Prize and a Dip RAM for an outstanding final recital.
Nikolay is also a devoted teacher with more than ten years of experience. His pupils passed ABRSM grade exams with Distinction, and some of them were accepted at the Paris Conservatoire and Vienna Hochschule.
